The rumors of ZEVO’s demise have been greatly exaggerated.
I can’t imagine not having it available. I continue to use it on all my Macs and I sleep better at night knowing that ZFS “has my back.” The peace of mind from automatic snapshots would be hard to give up. Returning to the status-quo HFS+ solution would be unimaginable. There is a better way!
Mac users, especially prosumers, will all benefit from a modern solution for their personal data storage. I can’t wait to get this awesome technology (and some new capabilities like auto snapshots and snapshot browsing) into more hands with our upcoming Community Edition of ZEVO next month.
Best-Fit
I have been out in Rhode Island this week at corporate HQ, enjoying being a part of the GreenBytes team. In software engineering, we consider placement algorithms when looking for available memory. Traditionally, there have been two placement approaches: first-fit (use the first available free location regardless of an optimal size match) and best-fit (find a location that best matches the size request). I am happy to report that joining GreenBytes was a best-fit solution. I am enjoying the collaboration with my new engineering colleagues as we tackle new challenges.
